Our Story

A Dream Stitched in West Hollywood

"We couldn't find a plushie magical enough for our daughter — so we made one ourselves."

In 2021, co-founders Maya and Jordan Rivera were living in a small apartment in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. Their daughter, Lily, had just turned three and was obsessed with unicorns — but everything on the shelves felt disappointing. Thin fabric, cheap stuffing, uninspired designs that lost their magic after the first wash.

So Maya, a former textile designer from Silver Lake, sketched the first Unicorn Stuffed Animal at their kitchen table. Jordan, with a background in e-commerce, set up the shop from their garage. Within weeks of sharing photos on Instagram, their inbox was flooded with orders from across the US — and then the world.

Today, Unicorn Stuffed Animal ships to over 40 countries from our Los Angeles fulfilment centre in the Arts District. But every single design still starts the same way: with a sketch, a dream, and one simple question — "Would Lily love this?"

2021
The First Unicorn 🦄

Maya hand-stitched the very first unicorn plushie in their West Hollywood apartment for Lily's third birthday. A photo posted on Instagram unexpectedly went viral overnight, flooding their inbox with hundreds of orders.

2022
The Shop Opens ✨

Operating out of a West Hollywood garage, we launched with three designs. All three sold out within six weeks. We moved to a small studio in Culver City and hired our first part-time team member.

2023
Going Global 🌍

Sophia joined the team and we expanded shipping to 40+ countries worldwide. Our first limited-edition drop — Midnight Aurora — sold out in under two hours. LA dreams, global reach.

2024
500 Unicorns Adopted 🎉

We celebrated our 500th order from our new fulfilment centre in the Arts District, Los Angeles. Each one represents a real child experiencing a little bit of California magic, wherever they are in the world.
